THIS IS US! CALIFORNIA WINES & OR.EGON WINE INSTITUTES WITH SOWINE AGENCY

A major event around Californian and Oregon wines was held in Paris on May 12, 2022 in the Embassy of the United States, I was invited.
I was able to discover a large panel of about 400 wines spread over forty tables and a «California Freshness» masterclass presented by Elaine Chukan Brown, editor for JancisRobinson.com.

I was first attracted by the excellence of pinot noir and some chardonnays from Oregon and Napa Valley, where the extreme care of most of the presented wines are worthy of a high-fashion signature with exhilarating freshness such as:

Adelsheim winery in Chehalem Mountains Oregon with the 2018 Staking Claim Chardonnay and the 2019 Breaking Ground Pinot Noir.
Zena Crown vineyard in Eola-Amity Hills Oregon with the Pinot Noir Vista 2015.
Gran Moraine in Yamhill-Carlton, Willamette Valley Oregon with Pinot Noir 2018.
The French (without being chauvinist) of Domaine Drouhin in Sola-Amity Hills Oregon for the 2019 Rose Rock chardonnay and the 2018 Rose Rock Zephirine pinot noir and in Dundee Hills for the pinot noirs including Laurène 2018.

00 wines «EGW» (extra good white) & «VGW» (very good white) Willamette Valley Oregon with the 2019 chardonnays.
Cristom en Eola-Amity Hills Willamette Valley Oregon with 2019 chardonnay and Mt Jefferson pinot noir.
Serene Estate in Willamette Valley Yamhill Oregon with pinot noir including EvenStad 2018 and Dundee Hills with chardonnay EvenStad 2019.
Buccella in Napa Valley with a splendid series including the cabernet sauvignon Katrina Eileen 2018.
Taubs Family Vineyards in Napa Valley for sauvignon Heritance 2019, cabernet sauvignon Heritance 2017 and the cuvée «Beckstoffer vineyard Georges III» with the appellation Rutherford.
The French Valade & Transadine representing Stephen Kistler in Sonoma Coast with the 2019 Freestone-Occidental pinot noir or that of Joseph Phelps, then Birichino in Central Coast with Saint Georges Zinfandel 2018 old vines or Scyclla blend carignan, grenache, mourvèdre 2018.
Austin Hope in Paso Robles Central Coast near the ocean with the 2020 cabernet sauvignon.
Long Meadow Ranch in Napa Valley for merlot 2017, cabernet sauvignons including the E.J. Church 2014.
Hoopes Vineyard in Napa Valley with Oakville appellation in cabernet sauvignon.
Merryvale Family in Napa Valley with the blend cabernet sauvignon, small verdot 26 months in Profile 2016 cuvée barrels or the cabernet sauvignon 2016.
Silver Oak Family in Napa Valley Oakville with their expensive red cuvées blend cabernet franc, sauvignon, small verdot Timeless Soda Canyon Ranch 2018 or the meteorite blend Ovid. Hexameter 2018 or 2015.
Domaine L’Aventure en Paso Robles Willow Creek District with their extreme cuvées blend cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot: Côte A Côte 2018, Estate Cuvée 2017 and Optimus 2018.

Résonance Vineyard  in Dundee Hills Oregon with Découverte Chardonnay 2019 and Yamhill-Carlton Pinot Noir 2017.

All of these wines that I had great pleasure in tasting and to note, are of great purity, controlled acidity, slender body with very delicate spices and fruits for the superb Oregon pinot noir (a complex olfactory and gustative ballet around raspberry, cherry, blackberry, lilac, cinnamon, cedar bark etc.); of radiant fruity and salty nobility for ample chardonnay in the mouth (ripe nectarine, pineapple, lemon zest, honeysuckle, saffron, fine toasted notes, etc.) while flowering with the minerality due to the terroir; vibrant textured richness for the prestigious 100% sauvignon cabernets or blend with the small verdot or cabernet franc (blackcurrant, blueberry, black cherry and notes of rose petal, leather, tobacco, smoked wood, liquorice, dark chocolate etc).

In the Wine4Melomanes palette, I chose to highlight the attractive sensuality, the lively brilliance and the chiseled harmony of these wines by 3 different pieces of contemporary music in echo released this year.

One for pinot noir grape:

E.J. Strickland “Language Of The Unheard” 2022

One for chardonnay grape :
Theo Croker (Feat. Jill Scott)- “To Be We “ 2022

And one for cabernet grape or blended :
Artie Zaitz, Mark Kavuma feat. Will Cleasby – “Cedar Tree” 2022
