My 3 southern organic red wines of the moment: CLOS CANERECCIA, CIRY CATTANEO & AMIEL FRÈRES

musical wines

A wine of France, red, Corsican, vintage 2014, vinified in amphoraes, ‘s got fantastic vivacity of red and black fruits well combined with some finest essences of garrigue.
A mixed sensuality of disconcerting taste where the freshness and well-balanced acidity guides our appetite. To be put in carafe 3h before tasting.

My chosen musical proposal in pairing:

Chris Joss – Incidental Affair – 2014

The perennial and cinematic instrumental arrangements where the keyboards adjacent to the « Schiffrine » bass, come reflected in the qualities described in this fiery wine of Corsican flavours and flavors.

After the meeting of the young oenologist « worldwide » David Ciry for the Domaine Ciry Cattaneo during the Barriquades in Darwin Bordeaux, I went to see him on the side of Carcassonne to taste all his atypical cuvées and really very successful. I decided to forge a musical chord for one of the cuvées: Malabestia 2016 bio composed of 60% black grenache, 25% carignan and 15% syrah in Minervois appellation.

Adorned with an orange « medieval » label where butterflies and troubadours plot this nectar of red and black fruits, fine spices, laurel and a limestone minerality to delight. An attractive masculine nose, a suave feminine mouth adds to this cuvée the charm of a real discovery accessible to all.

My chosen musical proposal in pairing:

Matthew Halsall & The Gondwana Orchestra – Patterns – 2016

This modern wine inspires contemporary music of the same vintage according to Wine4Melomanes.

The Troubadour on the bottle sticker guided me to the choice of musician Matthew Halsall & the Gondwana Orchestra playing the soprano sax on the instrumental composition « patterns » in 2016, the richness of the arrangement orchestrated by a master hand from the leader come layered to the aromatic bouquet in divine contrast with the mouth.

The liveliness and harmony of the nectar echoes with the melody of jazz to the perfectly drawn modal waltz.

Following my meeting with winegrower of the Amiel brothers at the salon #Souslespavéslavigne at H14 Bordeaux, I went to the domaine towards Béziers in order to know more precisely their work.

The sticker of the bottle « A Peïssou » where we see the clarinet as emblem (cf history of the domain), was as designed exclusively for Wine4Melomanes!

This vintage 2015 bio nature wine with syrah mono varietal reveals a fresh nose of dense black fruit, violet, black pepper, fine notes of cocoa. The mouth is still tight because of an imposing and very firm tannic structure. A wine of guard certainly.

My chosen musical proposal in pairing:

Alabama shakes – Don’t Wanna Fight – 2015

Here is the musical choice in pairing where the voice of the singer illustrates the sensuality of the wine tasted.

The spices, the black fruit and the freshness come reflected in the musical ardour and its soul arrangements with the rock tones.
